The first time I filmed a famous band, I was 16 years old in Charlotte, N.C., to see Led Zeppelin. I had a silent, super 8mm Agfa camera. I’ve since heard Led Zeppelin managers didn’t take kindly to documentation efforts at their concerts, but I guess I looked innocent enough. In any case, 40 years later the band’s website paid to have the film digitized, and put it on the Led Zeppelin website, with dubbed sound from the next night in Raleigh, NC. They sent me a copy of the converted DVR.
In 1974. I took the same silent 8mm camera to see David Bowie in Washington, DC.
